When you’re running your own business, carving out time for yourself often falls to the bottom of the to-do list. The daily juggle between managing clients, handling tech issues, scheduling content, and planning ahead means the idea of “clocking off” can feel more like a fantasy than a routine.

But here’s what I’ve learned lately: not taking time for yourself costs more in the long run.

Last week, I burned out faster than usual. I felt mentally overloaded, physically tired, and emotionally foggy. So I stepped back. I gave myself permission to go a little AWOL. I took some alone time to do things I actually enjoy—nothing strategic, nothing productive. Just simple, real rest.

And that pause? It helped me bounce back quicker than expected.

You might wonder, why did I burn out so badly? Honestly, I’m not 100% sure. It could be the weight of trying to do everything. Or maybe there’s something deeper I haven’t uncovered yet.
